Regarding the Pirates state of mind heading into their contest with the Wildcats.
"The guys have kept their confidence," Spell said. "We changed some things offensively and defensively this past week in practice. The bye week helped us get prepared for this game, and I thought we did a great job executing."Concerning the Pirates being down 20-7 at one point in the 2nd quarter.
"I told them to keep playing and keep their heads in the game, but I didn't have to say too much," Spell said. "They knew what to do."Commenting on the Davis' injury and the impact it had on the complexion of the game.
"Davis going down hurt them and allowed us to put more pressure on their backup quarterback," Spell said.Pirate running back Shea Green was one of the workhorses on the ground for Riverside and commented on the team effort.
"Without my O-line, I wouldn't be able to do anything," Green said. "My line cleared it open for me and I just tried to make something happen."Coach Spell, on what the Pirates have been through and how they feel after a big Friday night.
"Our first five games were rough," Spell said. "Injuries have hit our team hard. It's just been one of those years. The kids have been resilient though and continue to work hard. Getting that first win feels great."
