First RDU Expanded Breakdown Announced (Week 1 - Playoffs) - Broughton visits Garner - The Rematch

As is customary here at Bull City Football for Starters we'll continue to breakdown each of the games that a PAC-6 team is involved in during the playoffs and those posts we'll begin to hit the blog in the next day.  But we'll be adding a new post to the blog by expanding in the greater RDU area.  After votes came in via Twitter @durhamfbfan, through local message boards and email durhamfbfan [at] gmail [dot] com it's been decided by you the reader that we'll breakdown the rematch between Broughton and Garner High Schools.  The Broughton Caps come out of the Cap-8 conference while the Garner Trojans are a Greater Neuse staple and are coming off of a conference title.  The last loss for the Trojans was early in the season to the Caps and there has been a lot of talk about how both teams have changed, but most notably the Trojans as they've transitioned back to their traditional I set.  Placing players in positions to succeed based on their talents is a huge element of coaching and ultimately good teams find this out each year.  For the Trojans, the addition of Fayetteville Terry Sanford transfer A.J. Clanton was a welcome surprise at the beginning of the season, but seeing him prosper in Garner's traditional I sets, after a rocky overall team start using some non-traditional offensive sets was, well, maybe not exactly Marcus Dupree-like, read Barry Switzer changing from the OU wishbone to the I to highlight Dupree, but I must say that as I watched the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary The Best that Never Was last night and heard Switzer talk about the change in scheme, Garner popped in my mind just a bit.

Look for the breakdown of the match-up on Friday morning and we'll look forward to having another game in the RDU-Expanded area for the second round of the playoffs as well.  As we've done with our usual PAC-6 Breakdowns, we'll intro each team with statistics and information from throughout the year to paint a picture of how they've done both in their wins and losses.  From there we'll delve into the statistics of each team to see where their strengths and weaknesses may or may not be as well as compare each team based on common opponents during the 2010 year.  We'll wrap it up with odds-and-ends that may play into the game as well as our Final Analysis and the DFBFan Pick.

We've reached that third portion of the season - the playoffs - where you win, you move on and if you lose, it's time to line up and hand in those beat-up old hip pads!  Yet another reason why this game is so great.
